BLK Leadership Accelerator Session 5: board development

This in-person session will take place on April 7, from 6:00–7:30 PM at the Center Club in Baltimore, led by Darius Graham.

Strong boards do not happen by chance. They are built through clear expectations, thoughtful recruitment, and consistent engagement over time. This session focuses on the full lifecycle of effective board leadership, from identifying gaps and recruiting mission-aligned members to onboarding with intention and sustaining meaningful participation.

Participants will examine how board composition, clarity of roles, and engagement strategies influence organizational stability, fundraising capacity, and long-term impact. The session also explores how governance practices must adapt as organizations grow, ensuring boards remain connected to the mission and responsive to evolving needs.

The emphasis is on building boards that understand their role, contribute consistently, and support leadership in ways that match the organization’s current stage of growth. Leaders will leave with a clearer framework for strengthening governance and creating board structures that move the mission forward.

This workshop is exclusively for the 2025-2026 BLK Leadership Accelerator Class.

For those who couldn’t enroll in the in-person cohort, the virtual content is readily available through our member portal, ensuring all our members can access these invaluable insights and knowledge.
