BLK Leadership Accelerator Session 2: Emotional capacity

This virtual session will be led by Desiree Rew on February 17, from 6:00–7:30 PM via Zoom.

Emotional capacity shapes how leaders make decisions, communicate expectations, and sustain their teams over time. In nonprofit leadership, stress is often treated as standard and burnout as unavoidable. This session challenges that pattern by positioning well-being as a leadership responsibility tied directly to organizational health.

Participants will examine how emotional overload and prolonged stress influence leadership behavior, boundaries, and team culture. The conversation centers on building sustainable practices that support leaders beyond short-term coping, with attention to how emotional capacity shows up in expectations, responsiveness, and organizational norms.

This session supports leaders in moving out of constant survival mode and toward steadier, more sustainable leadership that protects both the mission and the people carrying it.

This workshop is exclusively for the 2025-2026 BLK Leadership Accelerator Class.

For those who couldn’t enroll in the in-person cohort, the virtual content is readily available through our member portal, ensuring all our members can access these invaluable insights and knowledge.
