Jay Nwachu is a purpose-driven leader working at the intersection of social entrepreneurship and impact investing to grow local economies and close the racial wealth gap. He leads two organizations, Innovation Works and Ignite Capital, dedicated to building pathways for community-driven economic empowerment—believing deeply that when people are given the opportunity to use their innate gifts and talents, they can care for themselves, support their families, and contribute meaningfully to the world.
Before stepping into his current work, Jay spent years in talent acquisition, helping individuals find careers that didn’t just pay the bills—but gave them space to flourish. That experience shaped his belief in the power of dignified work and the importance of creating systems that recognize and nurture human potential.
With a master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and a bachelor’s in Psychology, Jay brings a thoughtful, people-centered lens to leadership and community development. His approach is grounded in both research and lived experience, always with an eye toward equity, sustainability, and long-term impact.
Beyond his professional roles, Jay is a husband and father of two, a role he holds with the greatest pride. His civic involvement includes serving on several boards aligned with his values—ranging from leadership development (The Leadership) to the preservation of history (The Baltimore Museum of Industry). In all things, he seeks to honor the past, uplift the present, and invest in a more just future.
